Denise Richards has revealed that her decision to speak publicly about undergoing a facelift was influenced by an unexpected development in her ongoing divorce from Aaron Phypers.
The 55-year-old actress, known for her roles in Wild Things and the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, recently explained that she wanted to discuss the cosmetic procedure on her own terms after it became a subject of conversation during legal proceedings.
Speaking on the October 13 episode of The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Richards claimed that her estranged husband had deliberately mentioned her surgery in court.

Although reporters were present, she said she was surprised that the information did not immediately appear in news reports.
Rather than risk having the details emerge through her divorce dispute, Richards decided to address the subject herself.
A Personal Decision Became Part of a Public Dispute
Richards underwent facial surgery in June 2025, shortly before her marriage to Phypers came to an end.
Phypers filed for divorce on July 7, 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple had married in 2018.
During her conversation with Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Richards said she believed her estranged husband had intentionally introduced the subject of her facelift during court proceedings.
“I didn’t want to give him that power,” she explained, describing why she eventually chose to discuss the operation publicly.
Her comments offer further insight into a decision that had already attracted attention after she shared photographs documenting her transformation.
Richards also indicated that she had more than one reason for being open about the procedure. She wanted to share information that other women might find useful and acknowledge the surgeon responsible for her results.
What Denise Richards Actually Had Done
In March 2026, Richards gave an extensive interview to Allure, providing an unusually detailed account of her experience with facial cosmetic surgery.
She also shared before-and-after photographs showing the changes to her appearance.
Her surgeon, Beverly Hills-based Dr Ben Talei, performed a facelift alongside several additional procedures, including a temporal brow lift, upper eyelid surgery, adjustments to the outer corners of her lips and facial fat grafting.

According to the interview, fat was taken from Richards’ thighs and transferred to areas of her face and neck as part of the treatment.
Richards said her intention was to restore features that had changed with age rather than dramatically alter her appearance.
“I wanted to put things back up, where they were before,” she told the magazine.
The surgery represented a significant change of heart for the actress, who had previously been reluctant to consider a facelift.
Having spent decades working in an industry where her appearance was constantly scrutinised, she worried about the possibility of an unsuccessful result.
Richards said she had considered the operation for approximately two years before ultimately deciding to proceed.
Why Richards Is Now Comfortable Discussing Cosmetic Surgery
Beyond the circumstances surrounding her divorce, Richards believes attitudes towards cosmetic procedures have changed considerably since she began her Hollywood career.
She recalled a time when celebrities were often reluctant to acknowledge surgical enhancements, even as audiences regularly speculated about their appearances.
Now, she appears more comfortable discussing what she has had done, particularly when that information could help others make informed decisions.

Her experience has also encouraged her to speak more openly about the difference between cosmetic treatments and surgical procedures.
Richards has previously acknowledged undergoing breast augmentation when she was younger, but the 2025 operation was her first cosmetic surgery involving her face.
In her Allure interview, she discussed the recovery process, including swelling, temporary numbness and the importance of allowing sufficient healing time.
She also acknowledged that the results exceeded her expectations, describing the improvement in her confidence as an important part of the experience.
A New Perspective on Her Transformation
Richards’ latest comments have brought renewed attention to the photographs she shared earlier in 2026.
However, her explanation suggests that the decision to reveal her facelift involved considerably more than showing off a change in appearance.

For the actress, speaking publicly also meant deciding how personal information about her would be presented during an already difficult period.
While she has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of her surgery, she has also emphasised that cosmetic procedures are personal decisions requiring realistic expectations.
Her latest podcast appearance makes clear that, despite initially fearing how people might respond, she does not regret choosing to share her experience.
